Your carry on is your survival bag. It is not just to keep you entertained during the waiting and flying and waiting some more. This bag is more than that. If your luggage is lost, this is the bag that will sustain you until you either get your bag back, or can go buy all the things you need. If you have an accident during your travels, this bag will be your change of clothes—your quick clean up in a bag. This bag should help you to endure most scenarios you could befall during your travels. Here is a good checklist to get you by.

Packing Suitcase

Toiletries to Keep with You

  • Toothbrush and Toothpaste
  • Dental Floss
  • Face Lotion
  • Hand Cream
  • Deodorant
  • Dry Shampoo
  • Lip Balm
  • Hair brush/comb
  • Face mist

Sustain yourself if you have lost a checked bag, or if you are stranded in the airport for longer than anticipated.

Important Must Haves

  • Wallet
  • Passport
  • Travel Insurance
  • Visas
  • Flight Ticket
  • Valuables
  • Documents for other family members you may be traveling with

You will probably want to triple check you have all of these items. It would be terrible if you made it to the airport only to realize you forgot your wallet or passport.

Medication

  • Any prescriptions you may be taking should be kept with you
  • Advil/Tylenol/Ibuprofen
  • Vitamin C
  • Tums
  • Cough Drops
  • Immodium/Pepto Bismal
  • Dramamine/Gravol

All medications should be kept with you in case of a lost bag. You do not want to be traveling and catch a bug. Airports are full of germs, and airplanes are closed spaces with people and their germs. Traveling can be hard on your body too and make your immune system weaker.

Packing Suitcase

Comfort Items

  • Socks
  • Neck Pillow
  • Undergarments
  • Change of Clothes
  • Eye Mask
  • Blanket/scarf
  • Ear plugs
  • Flip Flops/extra shoes
  • Socks

A change of clothes can be a life saver. You could spill your coffee all over yourself. You want to be as comfortable as possible when traveling to make the experience easier and more enjoyable.

Electronics

  • Laptop
  • Kindle E-reader
  • USB Charger
  • Power bank
  • Plug in phone charger
  • Headphones

Let us be real, we have become completely reliable on our electronics. We do not want to have to do without them, so bring all the chargers and power banks to last your trip.

Miscellaneous

  • Snacks
  • Gum/breath mints
  • Collapsible water bottle
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Wet wipes
  • Face towel
  • Book
  • Tissues

Cheaper airlines do not offer snacks. Larger airlines offer snacks, but they might not be enough to keep you satisfied for your entire flight. You are welcome to bring snacks from home, or you can purchase snacks in the airport before your flight. Either way they are a necessity.

Ironically, remember you should pack light. When using this list, use it as a guide. Carry what pertains to you and forget the rest. Happy travels!
