If you plan to stay in a hotel during your vacation, plan for that room to be your home base. Just like your home gets messy and out of control without a plan, so can your hotel room! Even with daily housekeeping services, hotel rooms can quickly look like a tornado hit. Here are some easy steps to set up an organized and tidy hotel room routine!

Door Knob

Keep It Clean

As you enter the room, look through the eyes of your youngest children. First, clean down that germ infested remote control and all the door knobs and handles with a travel sized pack of bleach wipes. Housekeeping may not have cleaned them to your standards, especially if you have a little one who puts remote controls in their mouth! Set out two collapsible mesh laundry baskets. Place one by the door to corral shoes. In hotel rooms, shoes are always getting lost all over the hotel floor, they’re the hardest item to keep track of for a family! The second mesh laundry hamper hang in the closet for all dirty clothes. When it’s time to go, just collapse it down and reuse again! This next tip is for anyone who uses a water bottle or baby bottles. Bring your own mini dish soap to keep the bottles fresh. If you’re flying, transfer some into small TSA approved bottles. Lastly, bring your own small amount of liquid laundry detergent to avoid any possible allergens or new scents bothering you or small children.

Baby Proof

Baby proof your hotel room. Bring a roll of paper washi tape. Simply place a piece of tape over the outlet to make it safe. It won’t damage the wall or the outlets and peels up easily. For small children who may roll around the bed, grab large towels from the bathroom and roll them into a long snake to create a bumper rail. Secure it under the fitted mattress and children won’t roll off the bed. Unfamiliar lights are hard for children. Bring a small nightlight to keep near the bathroom for any night trips and to help them feel secure

Garbage Bags

Most hotels have a tiny trash can that gets filled up quickly, especially if you eat in your room or have children in diapers. Stick a few kitchen garbage bags in your suitcase. Use them for laundry or wet swimsuits. If you forget to pack kitchen garbage bags, hold onto grocery sacks as you go shopping and bring them back to the hotel to use.

Diffuser

Fight the Hotel Aroma

Sometimes hotel rooms can smell musty. Or the bathroom doesn’t have an exhaust fan. To combat odor in the hotel room, bring a mini essential oil diffuser. You just put water and your favorite essential oil inside. You can diffuse peppermint to get the room smelling fresh, or use lavender at night to help calm  children.

Hotels can be a home away from home! Prepare your room so you can crash and relax!
