Do you have a flight coming up? Didn’t book first class? Traveling with someone? However you’re flying, there are ways to make your visit through the airport a little less painful. It won’t help you with your red eye flight, but read on for ways to make your time at the airport a little easier. From someone who worked at an airport, there are plenty of tips that can be done!

Bring An Empty Water Bottle

Flying is dehydrating, plus all the pressurized air can dry out your nose. Just bring an empty water bottle and once you’re past security, fill it up at the airport. This can help you save a few bucks buying overpriced beverages at the airport. Be aware that a water bottle taken on the plane will pressurize and depressurize as you land. Full water bottles with straws can explode water everywhere.

Bring Your Own Snacks

Pilots do not buy food at the airport if they can avoid it. It’s expensive! Bring your own snacks with you. Easy snacks that travel are fruit leather, energy bars, and trail mix. Think of things that won’t crumble apart as they pass inspection and be aware of the size of any liquids so it can go through security.

Wearing Socks

Wear Socks

Some airports make you take your shoes off when going through security, especially in the US. To avoid standing barefoot on the dirty airport floor, make sure to wear socks! These will also come in handy for keeping your feet warm on your flight.

Wear Your Heaviest Outfit

To save room in your suitcase, wear your heaviest shoes/jacket combination in the airport. This way you can utilize all your suitcase space while remaining nice and warm in the airport and on those chilly planes. Dress in layers to stay comfortable while at the airport and on your flight. Airports and airplanes can either be extremely cold or extremely hot and usually there’s no happy in-between. The plane itself can get hot while the plane taxis, but once in flight the air often is frigid. Layers.

Security Line

Go Left at Security

Studies have shown that people naturally veer right, so when you reach a security checkpoint, head to the line furthest to the left and you just might save a few minutes waiting in line.

Get Bright

Everyone has a dark  suitcase. Literally, everyone. Make yours stand out by tying a brightly-colored ribbon around your suitcase to help you spot your luggage as soon as possible, and also will prevent others from stealing your stuff.

Check-In Online

For the frequent flyer, this is a no-brainer. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you to check in 24 hours before departure. This gives you priority boarding privileges and seat flexibility. You’ll also have notifications if there are any changes in your flight.

Traveling is an exciting adventure, but the journey isn’t often the fun part. Flying can be uncomfortable and cramped, but with preparation you’ll be flying in ease!
