While on vacation, you’re able to fully relax and let go of the stress in your life; but sometimes planning the vacation can cause a little bit of stress itself. There is so much to take into account from choosing the perfect destination to making sure you’ve packed all the essentials. Here we have outlined from start to finish on how to successfully plan your vacation, along with some tips to make the most of your trip.
Selecting your destination
First things first, you have to decided where you want to go! Depending on the time of year you are planning your trip will help you to choose the perfect destination. Most of the time the more tropical places stay fairly warm year round. Sometimes they are cheaper during their ‘rainy season’. This typically means that it’s a very wet time of year for them so some of the activities you have your heart set on doing may not be available during these times. If you are wanting to venture outside of the country, it’s helpful to look into their travel restrictions, be sure to have your passport well in advance, and a vacation visa if necessary. Regardless of where you choose to go, it’s best to plan your trip at minimum two months in advance but no more than a year. This gives you time to set the dates, get your hotels booked, and research the activities that will be available during your stay with little chance of unexpected changes due to prolonged planning.
Arranging your mode of travel
Planning your mode of travel can sometimes be the most stressful part. If you need to buy flights, ask yourself if you also need a rental car or if you can get away with just ridesharing. Often times if you book a rental car at the same time you book your flights you can get a discount. A good time to buy flights are anywhere from 2-4 months in advance. This helps you get a good price and the ability to choose a good seat before they are all taken. If you are traveling by car make sure you’ve gotten an oil change and tire rotation prior to hitting the road. Also being sure you have a charger for your phone is a must if you are using it as a gps.
Plan your activities
The activities you do while on vacation are the best part! You can be as relaxed or adventuress as you want to be. It’s a good idea to give yourself options, book the activities that need to have an advanced booking but give yourself a free day to just explore. Sometimes you’ll meet locals that recommend a hidden gem you had no clue existed and if you didn’t leave yourself a free moment in your schedule, you could miss out. Be sure to do your research so you don’t miss any of the main attractions of whatever destination you’ve decided on.
Vacations are meant to be relaxing. If you find yourself getting stressed during the planning process stop, take a step back, and just think of what will allow you to have the most enjoyable time. You also don’t have to do it alone. If you need your travel buddies help or input, don’t hesitate to have them help you out. Happy and safe travels!
